What do I need to know about bringing in my child(ren)?

If you are looking to bring your child to counseling, you will be required to fill out and sign consent to treat paperwork which will be discussed with both you and your child(ren) at the onset of therapy.

If you are currently married to the other parent of the child, I prefer but do not require both parents to sign the paperwork. If you were never married to the other parent, I prefer but do not require both parents to sign the paperwork. If you are divorced from the other parent, your court documents will determine who can consent to your child’s treatment and it is mandatory that you bring the custody agreement to the first session. If you are not the child’s parent, documentation needs to be provided that outlines who can consent for treatment and that person will need to sign the paperwork. Children over the age of 12 are also encouraged to sign their consent.

My standard of practice is to meet with the parent(s) for the first session without the child(ren) where we will discuss the paperwork, address the concerns that you have, and move towards making a plan for your child’s treatment. I also like to keep parents and/or family members involved throughout the treatment process. Each case is unique; if you have questions about your particular situation, please contact me.

What if I have more questions?

I am available for any questions you may have; contact me for more information.
